COPE Announces Tamiko Suzuki as fourth Park Board Candidate for 2026 Election

Vancouver, BC - Today, the Coalition of Progressive Electors (COPE) nominated their final candidate for Park Board Commissioner, Tamiko Suzuki.

“Growing up in a family committed to environmental stewardship inspired me, and watching my children become environmental advocates strengthened that commitment.” said Tamiko Suzuki today, “I'm running to upgrade neglected parks, expand our tree canopy to protect neighborhoods from extreme heat, restore natural ecosystems, and grow the green spaces that will make this city livable for generations.”

Tamiko Suzuki has spent her life working in healthcare at BC Children's Hospital, and has a history of environmental activism, including being arrested for protesting the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion in 2014.

“Access to nature isn't a luxury. It's essential. Ecosystems matter if we are going to have any kind of climate resiliency in this city.” she added.

“We’re thrilled to expand our Park Board slate to welcome Tamiko Suzuki to the team,” said COPE Co-Chair Sam Smart today, “COPE is ready to fight for our Parks.”

Tamiko joins the COPE Parks team with Squamish Nation matriarch and ethnobotanist Cease Wyss, BC Poverty Reduction Coalition organizer Sacia Burton, and active transportation advocate Jamie Han.

COPE is always on the side of better parks, pools, and playgrounds for all.
