Councillor Orr’s Motion Passes Unanimously: A Win for Common Sense and Public Safety

VANCOUVER, BC – COPE Councillor Sean Orr’s motion to “Improve Public Safety by Looking at Headlight Glare” was passed unanimously by City Council today. This advocacy motion will go forward with the aim of being presented at the next Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference, to be held in Edmonton in June of this year.

“This is a win for common sense and public safety,” said Councillor Orr. “Taking this to the FCM conference is a practical step to address the issue of excessively bright vehicle headlights, which are increasingly common on Vancouver streets and are a growing source of glare for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.”

Councillor Orr’s motion is in line with the City’s Vision Zero policy framework aimed at eliminating pedestrian fatalities and improving public safety for all those trying to get around in our city.

“This is an important issue on which the City can and should advocate to the federal government, so I’m very happy it’s going forward,” said Councillor Orr. “This win reaffirms the City’s commitment to safe and walkable streets.”

In other news  at Council today, Ken Sim and ABC voted down a motion proposing to restore the City’s Living Wage policy.
