Ken Sim and ABC Vote to Cancel Council Meeting And Block Sean Orr’s Motions on Tenant Rights, AI, and Climate
2026-07-15
Vancouver, BC - Yesterday at Vancouver City Council, Ken Sim’s ABC majority altered the schedule at the last minute to block motions from opposition councillors going forward, including five motions from COPE’s Sean Orr.
Enacting The Universal Tenant Rights Bylaw and Criminalizing Predatory Practices
Responsible and Accountable Use of Artificial Intelligence at the City of Vancouver
Using Major Events Tax Revenue to Support Hotel Workers Affected by the FIFA World Cup
Defending Vancouver’s Local Economy and Coastal Waters from the Proposed West Coast Pipeline Expansion
Expanding Vancouver's Circular Economy Through Public Infrastructure
“These motions would have established tenant rights by law, protected our coast from tanker traffic, regulated the use of AI by senior staff, and more.” said Sean Orr today, “ABC shut down speakers who were going to exercise their democratic rights, and ended debate on the direction of the city.”
“We need to stand up for Vancouver’s coast and wildlife against pipeline expansions and tanker traffic,” said COPE Council Candidate Devyani Singh, “Ken Sim’s shown over and over again they’re in the pocket of big oil and gas, one of his senior staffers is an LNG CEO.”
“Ken Sim says that he has 11 AI agents doing all of his work for him,” said COPE City Council Candidate Chloe Leslie, “Sean’s AI motion would have required senior staff to attest formally to their use of AI with private city information.”
“They’re afraid of people standing up for the city, they’re afraid of you. That’s why they shut down democracy. Because they’re not strong.” said COPE Mayoral Candidate Stephanie Allen, “We need to elect the exact opposite of Ken Sim and ABC, clean up city hall, and fight for our city.”
Stephanie Allen, Sean Orr, and the COPE team are on the side of the people.
