Mayor Ken Sim’s corporate agenda blocked by Incompetent leadership

Mayor Ken Sim’s plan to build for-profit housing on our public land was struck a major blow today as a result of his failure to keep his party together and secure a 2/3 majority vote.

Opposition councillors offered numerous amendments: to refer the decision to a future meeting, to prioritize financing affordable housing, to better understand proposed affordability impacts, to improve democratic engagement, and to provide more information to council and the public. ABC voted the amendments down.

“Ken Sim has refused to collaborate over and over again, and now he’s complaining that he himself refused to work across the aisle,” said Sean Orr today. “People in Vancouver want us to focus on using our public land for permanently affordable public housing, not for-profit development.”

An amended version of the motion that includes the productive improvements rejected by Ken Sim can be re-introduced after the 2026 election.
