Meeting Notice: COPE General Meeting on August 8, 2026
Dear COPE Members,
In accordance with the COPE Constitution (Part 3, Bylaw 2) and the BC Societies Act, the Executive hereby gives official notice of a General Meeting of the Society to be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026. This meeting is essential for finalizing our 2026 election slate and completing our 2026 Policy Platform.
Meeting Details
Date: Saturday, August 8, 2026
Time: Sign-in begins at 1:45 PM; Call to Order at 2:00 PM
Location: Virtual-only via Zoom. (The meeting link and instructions for participation will be sent to members upon registration)
Registration: Members are requested to register and sign in at least 15 minutes prior to the call to order to allow the Credentials Committee to certify the official voting roll
Notices of Agenda Items
Election of Treasurer: Due to the resignation of Paul Houle, the Society must elect a new Treasurer for the remainder of the term. Bradley Watson has announced his intention to seek the position. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted as per our standard bylaws.
Business Arising from Conferences
Park Board Nominating Conference: To complete our 2026 candidate team, we will conclude the unfinished business from our Nomination Conference.
Park Board Slate Nomination: The Campaign Committee has formally ratified the vetting of Guerric Hache and Tamiko Suzuki as eligible candidates for the final spot on our Park Board slate. A vote will be conducted to finalize this nomination.
Joint Resolutions Committee (JRC) Reports & Tabled Items
Electoral Reform (Block D, Section 4): Consideration of a Joint Resolutions Committee (JRC) report and a final vote on COPE’s advocacy for electoral reform approaches.
Technical Review: Affordable Housing Definition (Block A, Section 6): Review of the JRC's recommended wording to ensure the adopted rent-geared-to-income language is technically robust.
Other Outstanding Platform Amendments: Consideration of additional platform amendments brought forward by the members at the conference but not fully addressed before the end of the platform meeting.. The JRC will bring back a selection of these items for final decision based on their review
